This book presents the history of HIV/AIDS in China, which over the last three decades has been a gripping tale of exclusion and fear, and then, by turns, of involuntary tragedy, cautious experimentation and finally vigorous response. It discusses the occurrence, development and epidemic studies and also introduces China’s policies and measures to conquer this epidemic, offering readers valuable insights into China’s approach to prevention in this field.

"You are fortunate to have in your hands an exciting, engaging, and wonderfully edited volume stemming from a conference on temporality in analysis. Angeliki Yassemides has rendered a great service to analytical psychology in putting together the conference and this subsequent compilation of papers that plumb the depths of time, especially as experienced in psychological reality. Multifaceted explorations of clinical, cultural and historical reflections on time offer readers the opportunity for a plunge into the complexity we call time. Do take the time to savor this delightful collection." - Joe Cambray, Ph.D, Provost, Pacifica Graduate Institute, Past-President, IAAP

"Angeliki Yiassemides has assembled a richly stocked treasure chest of a book. Each individual essay is a gem, and the totality amounts to a brilliant display of psychological insight into a multitude of experiences of temporality. This work is bound to generate much further discussion and interest in a topic of contemporary interest for all schools of psychotherapy." - Murray Stein, Author of Minding the Self.

"The counting and accounting of time, which passes at its own rhythms, the individual and collective feeling of duration, the experience of living in different temporalities, some of them simultaneous, the amazement we feel when the past, supposedly gone forever, proves to be present still, or abruptly returns, or stubbornly repeats itself: all of these events occur daily. They continually mobilize our attention and wonderment, whether we are farming, strolling, making art, or researching physics or philosophy.

This age-old amazement and exploration come to life again, renewed by depth psychology, in various contemporary psychoanalytical traditions, and particularly in the works of Jung and of today’s Jungian analysts and researchers. Recently, Angeliki Yiassemides reopened the proceedings masterfully, with Time and Timelessness: Temporality in the Theory of Carl Jung (Routledge, 2014). In this new book, she brings together a set of authors which includes some of the most influential thinkers in Jungian psychology and psychoanalysis. Within the scope of his own research, each essayist reconsiders the investigations and theories elaborated so far on the subject of time and temporality, suggesting new approaches and opening perspectives to help us recognize and think about time in the diversity of its expressions and dimensions.

"I fervently recommend this book to every curious mind, to researchers, scholars, and clinicians. It provides abundant food for thought and observation." - Christian Gaillard

Angeliki Yiassemides, PhD, is an independent Jungian scholar, a developmental psychologist, and a Jungian analyst in training. She holds a PhD in psychoanalytic studies and is the author of Time and Timelessness: Temporality in the Theory of Carl Jung (Routledge).

Behavior, Truth and Deception is the finest book and resource material I have found on interrogating criminal suspects. Mike Napier and his outstanding collaborators bring together all of the critical components of the art and science of interviewing and interrogation into one easy-to-read source. By this I mean the legal, psychological, analytical, and practical aspects of behaviorally-based interrogations. As someone who has interrogated individuals suspected of committing some of the world’s worst crimes, including crimes against humanity, I can unequivocally state that the techniques and discussions provided in this book will indeed assist the practitioner in successfully eliciting incriminating statements and admissions for crimes of any classification. I will use the book both as a professional reference and as a textbook for my students.

― Dr. John Cencich, university professor and former United Nations war crimes investigator

Mike Napier's expertise, experience, and education are evident in Behavior, Truth and Deception, and the result is a fine law enforcement textbook on successful interview and interrogation. Kansas officers recall Mike Napier's interrogation contributions to the successful prosecutions of killers like Donald Ray Gideon (Stephanie Rene Schmidt) and Richard Grissom (Theresa Brown, Joan Butler, and Christine Rusch). Thanks to Behavior, Truth and Deception, that expertise is now available to all.

―Larry Welch, retired FBI special agent and supervisory senior resident agent, and retired director of the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.

Mr. Napier, a retired FBI profiler and polygraph examiner, reveals for the first time secrets learned and used in his distinguished career with groundbreaking interviewing psychology obtained from successfully interrogating hundreds of criminals responsible for high-profile crimes. Behavior, Truth and Deception goes well beyond the usual interpretation of body language during interrogation, focusing on the psychological factors in interrogation and confession. Mr. Napier discloses how the Targeted Subject Interview technique maximizes the psychological impact of interrogations, reveals a suspect’s psychological weakness, and provides verbal tactics that will lead to a confession. He describes the psychological approach that the FBI’s profile unit uses to analyze a crime scene to gain insight to the offender’s psychological motivation and obtain a confession.

Mr. Napier’s book includes information on analyzing and profiling sexual assault crimes, interviewing sexual assault victims to obtain psychological information on the suspect, gathering psychological information on suspects, and an overlooked but critical aspect of preparing for an interrogation: victimology. Mr. Napier provides case examples to illustrate the psychological lessons learned from years of profiling and interrogating serial murders, rapists, and other serious offenders. Checklists for conducing psychological background investigations of suspects and indirect personality assessment of suspects provide investigators with themes and verbal tactics for obtaining confessions.

Chapters on false reports and the analysis of 911 calls provide new sources of information for even seasoned investigators. The text is supplemented with checklists and guides for suspect indirect personality assessment, sexual assault victim interviews, victimology assessment, and the structure of a successful interrogation that make application of the psychological techniques described in the book easy to apply in real cases.

―Perry Gilmore, Master of Arts, Forensic Psychologist, Interrogation Instructor, Assistant Chief of Police, Amarillo Texas Police Department

Not only a master of the psychology of interrogation, Michael Napier was an extraordinary FBI Agent for 28 years who honed his interrogation skills in the field. When I was a federal prosecutor, Mike Napier was the FBI case agent that cracked a pervasive and long term bribery scheme involving nearly all the meat packers in southern California and many of the U.S. Department of Agriculture meat graders and inspectors assigned there. The scheme was carried on for years behind a wall of silence that was only penetrated when then Agent Napier induced one of the USDA officials to confess that he had taken bribes for several years while in the Los Angeles office of the USDA. This confession led to a guilty plea and cooperation. The official became a FBI informant and went undercover wearing a wire. Nearly 100 defendants were ultimately indicted and convicted of giving and receiving bribes; the largest series of bribery prosecutions in the history of the U.S. Department of Justice.

In his book Behavior, Truth and Deception, Michael Napier lays out the preparation and tactics that every detective should know before interrogating suspects. Because of his background as a criminal investigator with the FBI, Napier is in a unique position to combine the theoretical with the practical when it comes to the most astute interrogations methods known to criminal investigators. Law enforcement in the U.S. and in other countries around the globe have much to learn from Napier’s excellent book on the best and proven interrogation practices and techniques. As his book demonstrates, coercive tactics are rarely needed, and they tend to reduce the reliability of admissions and confessions. Indeed, there are some important lessons in this book for intelligence services that are involved in interrogation of subjects.

Napier’s book is surely the primer for questioning suspects, and it is a must read for all who are or may be engaged in interrogations of criminal subjects.

―Robert C. Bonner, former Administrator of the DEA, former Commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and a former U.S. Attorney and United States District Judge

Michael R. Napier is a former FBI (27 years) Supervisory Special Agent, field office program manager and violent crime assessor in the National Center for the Analysis of Violent Crime, where he investigated complex bribery, price-fixing, organized crime, violent crime, labor racketeering, Medicare and medical fraud, and white collar crime cases. He also supervised undercover operations. He is an FBI-qualified Polygraph Examiner and has extensively studied interview and interrogation strategies and tactics and the methodology to deny successful challenges to confessions. He specializes in applying behavioral analysis to violent crimes to assess the potential for preventing violence or deterring specific criminals in individual settings. Those techniques include determining foresee-ability of an individual committing a violent act. He is a nationally-recognized presenter on various topics concerning violent crime assessment, violent offender motivation, interview and interrogation strategies and crisis management subjects. Mr. Napier holds Adjunct Faculty positions at the University of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University and Wichita State University.

Children are not miniature adults—but they will grow to become adults. Brad Hudson, Lize Brittin, and Kevin Beck understand this, and in Young Runners at the Top they have created the first and only training guide that is specific to the needs of youth runners yet also takes the long view, offering guidance to ensure its readers run well and happily not just today but for a lifetime. (Matt Fitzgerald, running coach, nutritionist, and author of How Bad Do You Want It?)

Young Runners at the Top is a must-read for high-school coaches or parents looking to maximize their runners' potential with smart training and avoid some common mistakes that lead to injury and burn-out. This book helps coaches and parents understand the delicate balance between fitness and competition, all while keeping in mind the goal of the sport is to develop the whole person and promote a life-time love of running. (Blake Russell, 2008 marathon Olympian, 5-time national champion, physical therapist, staff writer for the Monterey Herald and Santa Cruz Sentinel)

There are plenty of books about childhood, parenting and running but, until Young Runners at the Top, none have attempted to confront both. Through their book, the three well-appointed authors offer a road map to guide those confronting what may be and often is a gauntlet of a journey that young runners face. Young Runners at the Top will help them confront injury, burnout, stress, and eating issues, as well as tough decisions and coaches. (Adam W. Chase, President, American Trail Running Association, and co-author of The Ultimate Guide to Trail Running)

A compelling insight into running for fun and for longevity rather than the need to win and succeed at all costs, and the differences between individual runners and what motivates and drives them. There are plenty of thought-provoking ideas for coaches, parents and athletes to discuss to enable healthy, lifelong habits. (Ruth Waller-Liddle, physical therapist and competitive runner)

Brad Hudson is one of the most respected distance-running coaches in the U.S. He competed in the Olympic Trials Marathon and has coached a slew of world-class runners in Oregon and Colorado. He is the founder of Marathon Performance (http://www.marathonperformance.com/) and is the head of the Hudson Training Systems Elite group (http://hudsoneliteco.com/). Hudson is the coauthor of Run Faster From 5K to the Marathon.

Lize Brittin is a writer and runner. She is the author of Training on Empty (2013) and has written for publications such as Competitor, Active Cities, Boulder Magazine, and Thrill. At age sixteen Brittin set a women’s record at the Pikes Peak Ascent, considered one of the most challenging mountain races in the country.

Kevin Beck was a senior writer for Running Times magazine for over a dozen years. He is a regular contributor to Competitor Running, Triathlete Magazine, and Men’s Fitness and is the editor of the training book Run Strong (2005). Beck has coached at the high school and open category levels and gives talks across the country.

"Psychogenic nonepileptic seizures are the most common subtype of functional neurologic disorder and it is important for the medical community to know how to help these patients. Unfortunately, functional neurologic disorders have fallen into a black hole between neurologists and
psychiatrists, and it has been difficult to find appropriate care. This excellent book points a way forward. Not only does it summarize the current literature on diagnosis, pathophysiology, and therapy, but it emphasizes the need for a multidisciplinary approach. The book gives guidance for how
neurologists, psychiatrists and other healthcare professionals can work together."

--Mark Hallett, MD, National Institute of Health, Bethesda, MD

"Drs. Dworetzky and Blaset, together with their team of experts, have provided a concise and thorough review of psychogenic nonepileptic seizures. This book provides insight on diagnosis, mechanisms, and therapy and is a must read for all neurologists, psychiatrists, and psychologists involved
in this underserved, large population."

--Orrin Devinsky, MD, Chief of Service, NYU Epilepsy Service, NYU School of Medicine, New York, NY

Dr. Dworetzky is the Chief of Epilepsy at the Brigham and Women's Hospital and Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School. She leads the large multidisciplinary Bromfield Epilepsy Program and directs the EEG laboratory and the clinical training fellowships in her field. Dr. Dworetzky is the Chair of the Clinical Council of Activities for the American Epilepsy Society and is a leading expert in psychogenic nonepileptic seizures. Together with Dr. Baslet, she sees patients in a shared clinical setting to enhance patient engagement in treatment.

Dr. Gaston Baslet is an Associate Psychiatrist at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School. He specializes in the neuropsychiatric aspects of epilepsy and functional neurological symptom disorder, including psychogenic non-epileptic seizures. It is currently estimated that over six million people are affected by some form of dementia. Because people are living long, that number will double over the next ten years. Over 50 per cent of people over 85 years of age suffer from some form of dementia, and dementia is newly diagnosed every five minutes. If you know no one with some form of dementia now, the odds are that someone in your family or circle of friends will be affected very soon. (2016-08-05)

Lee Cardwell is a wife, mother, grandmother, and daughter who spent several years caring for her mother as she slipped into Alzheimer's disease. Then, just after the long struggle with her mother ended, her husband was diagnosed with vascular dementia. Lee's battle began again, this time with different struggles and opportunities. She is well equipped to tell this personal story through her years of investigating and learning about the disease firsthand. Lee, a Toastmaster for over 20 years, has spoken many times at Toastmaster contests and public events about her battle with dementia. She organized her own "WOW Wednesday" event to raise funds to support the Alzheimer's Society, and spoke at the Motivational Mondays event held in Edmonton on the topic of dementia.

This book tells the professional and personal experiences of American military psychiatrists and their fellow mental health providers  in the longest conflict in American history. These men and women treat service members for the psychological consequences from their experiences in battle, including killing enemy combatants; seeing wounded and killed civilian casualties; losing their friends in combat; factoring in personal mental health needs,; and potentially dealing with their own physical injuries from being shot or blown up.

The volume consists of 20 short first-person case studies from mental health providers who have been risking their lives while treating patients in the battlefield since 9/11. Written by experts who have experienced these challenges directly, this text offers both clinical and personal accounts that are not found elsewhere. Topics include tips on providing psychotherapy in battle, evaluating and treating detainees in war prisons such as Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo Bay, and the unique challenges of prescribing medication to patients who are also comrades in war.

Psychiatrists in Combat; Mental Health Clinicians in the War Zone  is uniquely positioned to be a valuable resource for psychiatrists interested in trauma and veterans, psychologists, social workers, occupational therapists, military health personnel, and mental health professionals interested in military psychiatry.

This easy-to-read book thoughtfully shares Noah's wisdoms gleaned from a lifetime of living with the process of healing the bodymind. He adds to the deepness of his extensive experience by grounding it within the research and practice of other contemporary leaders in the field. I plan to keep this resource handy to read whenever my physical listening senses need a honing! -- Victoria Day, MEd, PLPC, certification student LIMS I will definitely reread Noah Karrasch's fine book and would love to use it as a text for yoga teacher and yoga therapy trainings. Noah's work integrates all of the top thinkers on fascia, vagus, mind/body, energy and healing into a readable and useful model that helps therapists remember why we do this healing work. -- Beth Spindler C-IAYT, ERYT500, Yoga Therapist, Teacher, Writer at Yoga International Publications I have had over 50 sessions with Noah and consider his work at the top of the bodywork movement. Read and heed this inspirational message. -- C. Norman Shealy, M.D., Ph.D., Founder and CEO, International Institute of Holistic Medicine Noah's book is a profound integration of cutting edge concepts in physiology, health and integrative medicine. In my view, this book (especially the first five chapters) should be required reading for all healers, beginning with physicians of all specialities, psychologists, and therapists of any persuasion. His understanding of the autonomic nervous system, and the impact of heart rate variability on overall health and function is a must read for any health practitioner. He makes very difficult material easy to understand. The second half of the book will be of great value to any body worker/movement therapist. Noah's practical applications of his BodyMindCORE concepts are useful, and helpful. As a client/patient, I have frequently benefited from Noah's BodyMindCORE work. He helps me breathe, move, and grow in a way that few others can. -- Ralph Harvey, MD, Cornerstone Family Practice, MI, USA Weaving insights from body-centered therapeutic realms, mind-centered psychology and heart-centered practices such as yoga, Noah Karrasch has created a wonderful synergy between Western practicalities and Eastern modalities. Yoga teachers, of which I am one, will benefit from hearing what he has to say, as will their students. -- Bernie Clark, author of Your Body, Your Yoga and The Complete Guide to Yin Yoga Having worked in the fitness and bodywork industry for over two decades, I've had the privilege to be taught by the inspirational and knowledgeable Noah Karrasch. His unique approach combines decades of study, knowledge and personal experience. I have passed on his hidden gems and techniques to hundreds of my own students over the years with startling and profound results. His model, philosophy and approach give guaranteed results. Noah shares his perspective on opening and loosening the BodyMindCORE, in order to unwind and release inner tension. This tension can cause a reduction in circulation, resulting in a lack of energy within the body, often leading to pain. Whether you are a bodywork professional or enthusiast, there is something for everybody in this book, due to Noah's clear and concise explanation. A fascinating read - highly recommended! -- Emma Newham, Director, Pilates Union UK, Creator of the BarreConcept Method, Owner of MyBody Studios

Noah Karrasch's CORE® model focuses on body, breath, and movement awareness in order to determine where restrictions in the body may occur. Based on a lifetime of fine-tuning CORE® theory and practice, this book explains how and why this model works and helps movement therapists get better results by being more in tune with both their clients and themselves.

Photographs demonstrate how to help clients work from a free and resilient CORE® and how to isolate, stretch and release restrictions to achieve greater energy levels and pain reduction. With the mantra that in order to treat the physical, we must also examine our emotional, mental and energetic states, this book shows how to better involve clients in their own healing process through movement work.
